As part of a prestigious interior refurbishment for one of the UK’s leading automotive manufacturers, we were commissioned to assist with the design development, manufacture and installation of a series of bespoke architectural fabric structures within a newly reimagined showroom environment. Combining tensile fabric engineering with precision manufacturing, the scheme demonstrates how lightweight fabric architecture can be used to create dramatic interior features at significant scale.

The centrepiece installations — sculptural cone-like forms standing almost six metres tall — required an exceptional level of geometric control whilst remaining lightweight and structurally efficient. Developed as twin-skinned tensile fabric structures, each form incorporated a fully engineered internal steel framework, produced from detailed 3D modelling to ensure perfectly straight profiles and a seamless external appearance. The fabric membranes were designed to interface only at the head and base of each structure, allowing uninterrupted surfaces and a clean architectural finish throughout.

Within a secondary atrium space, a series of suspended fabric ceiling fins was introduced above the vehicle display areas. These bespoke fabric ceiling features were designed to enhance the interior architecture, draw the eye through the showroom space and subtly diffuse the lighting emitted from the illuminated ceiling panels positioned above. The result is a softer, more refined lighting environment that complements the premium automotive setting below.

The illuminated fabric ceiling panels — some measuring close to 6m x 6m — were formed over rolled tubular steel frames and finished with precision-tailored twin-skin fabric covers. The architectural fabric was custom printed to an exact RAL colour reference before being tensioned and zipped over the completed frames to achieve a seamless and consistent finish across the installation.

All fabrication, frame assembly and fabric finishing works were completed off-site within our specialist manufacturing facility. By pre-building the structural elements and tension fabric systems prior to delivery, we were able to maintain strict quality control, ensure dimensional accuracy and significantly streamline the final installation programme on site.
