We recently completed an acoustic refurbishment project for a large office building in North Wales, where staff were experiencing excessive noise levels in the building's impressive 14-metre-diameter circular canteen. Constructed from glass and steel with exposed structural steelwork and a hardwood floor, the space suffered from significant reverberation, making it a noisy and uncomfortable environment during busy periods.

The challenge was to introduce effective acoustic treatment while working around the existing lighting and smoke detection systems recessed within the ceiling.

Our solution was to install twelve bespoke curved-edge acoustic fabric sails, carefully positioned between the roof beams to maximise sound absorption without compromising the building's design. Each sail was manufactured using our light-block acoustic fabric and fixed to the existing structure using stainless steel brackets and shackles, providing a neat, durable installation.

The finished scheme has dramatically reduced echo and reverberation, creating a more comfortable, welcoming canteen that retains the building's striking architectural character while delivering a significant improvement in acoustic performance.
