For this major refurbishment for GE at the Ark, AukettFitzroy Robinson asked us to help them to design and install fabric sails to help with the acoustics in the newly planned 7th floor staff restaurant.

Designed to help reduce sound reverberation and improve noise levels in an open plan area, the cotton based fabric sails span from fixings contained within the 8th floor balcony bulkhead over to strap clamps on the exposed existing tube supportive columns.

The form of the sails was tricky to draw - so a small maquette provided the reality that was needed to see how the sails appeared in relation to each other and the space.

Annual removal of the sails for cleaning is planned to prolong the fabric's life span and to keep them looking in tip top condition.
